Substance Use Disorder Treatment for Women and Women with Children

For many women, the journey to recovery from substance use disorder (SUD) is complicated by the responsibilities of motherhood and a lack of support. At Gaudenzia, we understand these challenges—and we’ve been addressing them for over 45 years.

One of the primary reasons fewer women than men seek SUD treatment is the fear of not having a safe place to send their children while receiving care. Mothers seeking treatment may have no choice but to put their children in an untenable situation or may need to hand them over to foster care, disrupting their ability to parent their children.

In 1979, Gaudenzia became a national pioneer in offering treatment programs tailored specifically for women and mothers—ensuring they could receive care without being separated from their children.

Sex-Specific SUD Treatment

We offer programs for women, including pregnant women and mothers with children, based on clinical assessment and evidence-based practices. We also provide specialized treatment to pregnant women with substance use disorder, ensuring they receive timely access to care and support. Our WWC programs enable treatment, while children remain with their parents throughout the treatment period.

Our WWC program services include:

  • High-Intensity Residential SUD Treatment
  • Low-Intensity Residential SUD Treatment
  • Co-Occurring Disorders Treatment
  • Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) Options for Opioid Use and Alcohol Use Disorders
  • Individual and Group Counseling
  • On-Site Childcare
  • Educational Support Services
  • Family Reunification Opportunities
