Gaudenzia Erie to host Drum Circle Therapy Program

Erie, PA – October 19, 2020 – Through a generous grant provided by the Pennsylvania Partners in the Arts, Gaudenzia Erie, Inc. will once again host a therapeutic program called “DRUM-atic Healing at Gaudenzia.” The initial session of this program will be held on Thursday, October 22 at 2 p.m. at Gaudenzia’s Community House facility, which is located at 521 West 7th Street.

The “DRUM-atic Healing at Gaudenzia” program will incorporate music, specifically drum circles, into the healing process as people recover from addiction. For years, studies have indicated that drumming and drum circles have lowered people’s stress levels.

For this project, which was established as a pilot program in 2018, Valerie Baltzer, the owner of Joyous Spirit Yoga and a well-established facilitator of art therapy, will lead the project. “While drum circles have been around for years and continue to grow and expand, this particular project can be thought of as highly innovative, and Gaudenzia has successfully incorporated it into our therapeutic community of treatment,” said Jason Kisielewski, Gaudenzia Erie, Inc.’s Community Affairs Manager. “When an individual is relaxed, it becomes easier to focus on their treatment, goals, and recovery. In addition to relieving stress, drum circles have also proven to be excellent methods to reduce anxiety and manage anger.”
