Meet Dr. Valda Dawson, who serves as the Director of Health Services in the Eastern Region
In recognition of Women’s History Month, we wanted to highlight some of our colleagues and the work that they do. Today, we meet Dr. Valda Dawson, who serves as the Director of Health Services in the Eastern Region. Dr. Dawson has a Doctorate of Chiropractic and is a physician assistant. She has been working with Gaudenzia for six years.
What is it like to be a woman working in this Industry?
Working as a woman in this industry is both challenging and extremely rewarding. As a member of the leadership team and a provider, I have an opportunity to make and review policies and provide direct patient care. I am in a position where I can make recommendations based on actual practice.
What is an accomplishment you are most proud of while working at Gaudenzia?
I am most proud of the crisis management during the uprise and peak of the Covid-19 pandemic. It was such an honor to be a part of a dedicated management team that was there every day to show support and calm fears. I am proud of the teamwork that we all displayed. My colleagues, medical staff, and support staff did and continue to do an excellent job finding resources so that we can all remain safe.
What inspires your motivation for work?
My biggest motivation is that I want to prevent anyone from burying a loved one due to addiction. My motto is, there is no shame in coming back to treatment, the shame is when you are not able to make it back. I realize I cannot save everyone, but I am here for those people I can save!
