Daniel J. Hilferty is President of Health Markets for Independence Blue Cross. In this role, Mr. Hilferty oversees sales, marketing, and subsidiary operations, which include AmeriHealth Administrators, AmeriHealth New Jersey, and Comp Services. He also has profit-and-loss responsibility for IBC’s five-county core business.

Prior to coming to Independence Blue Cross in 2010, Mr. Hilferty was President and Chief Executive Officer of the AmeriHealth Mercy Family of Companies, a Medicaid managed care services company serving 6.5 million people nationwide. AmeriHealth Mercy is jointly owned as a partnership of Independence Blue Cross and Mercy Health System.

Mr. Hilferty has more than 25 years of experience in health care, government affairs, communications and education. Prior to leading AmeriHealth Mercy, he was Senior Vice President of Corporate and Government Affairs for Mercy Health System in Southeastern Pennsylvania. Before his tenure at Mercy Health System, Mr. Hilferty was the Executive Director of PennPorts with the Office of Pennsylvania Governor Robert P. Casey. He managed all economic development programs and legislative relations related to the ports of Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Erie. In 1994, Mr. Hilferty ran for the position of Lieutenant Governor for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Mr. Hilferty currently serves on the Boards of Saint Joseph’s University, the Greater Philadelphia Urban Affairs Coalition, J.J. White & Company, Drexel Neumann Academy and the Irish Educational Development Foundation. In 2008, Saint Joseph’s University’s Erivan K. Haub School of Business honored alumnus Mr. Hilferty with its Hall of Fame award.

Mr. Hilferty's long standing commitment to the community is evidenced by his work with the Pedro Arrupe Center for Business Ethics, and his service as the Chairman of the Sultan Jihad Ahmad Community Foundation’s Fundraising initiatives and Chair of the Drexel Neumann Academy Development Committee. He has been recognized for his community involvement, and was honored in 2009 by Philadelphia’s Northern Home for Children for his outstanding work and commitment to bettering the lives of underserved children.

Mr. Hilferty received a Master of Public Administration from American University in Washington, DC, where he earned a Graduate Teaching Assistantship in Statistical Analysis, and a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Saint Joseph's University in Philadelphia. He resides in Ardmore, Pennsylvania, with his wife, Joan, and their children Coeli, Maris, Daniel, John and Matthew.
