PHILADELPHIA, PA - Walter D'Alessio, Vice Chairman, NorthMarq Capital, has been selected to receive the 2004 Gaudenzia Humanitarian Award. Noted for his outstanding work in the field of drug and alcohol treatment, prevention and education for almost 40 years, he has given most generously of his time, energy and resources to help Gaudenzia and other agencies provide life-saving services to those whose lives are impacted by substance abuse and related issues. The event will be held in conjunction with the agency's 6th Annual Benefit Auction on May 12th, 2004 at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Gaudenzia, Inc., Pennsylvania's largest non-profit provider of substance abuse treatment services has presented the Humanitarian Award only three times prior in our 35 year history. Past recipients Sen. Arlen Specter, State Secretary of Welfare Estelle Richmond and Peter Wambach, Executive Director for the Bipartisan Management Committee of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives Committee have all been invited to help honor Mr. D'Alessio. Along with the event co-chairs Fred DiBona, Jr., Esq., President and CEO, Independence Blue Cross, Denis O'Brien, President, PECO Energy, Charles Pizzi, President and CEO, Tasty Baking Company and Gerard Sweeney, President and CEO, Brandywine Realty Trust, a large group of community volunteers are working tirelessly to raise $75,000 for Gaudenzia's programs and services. Proceeds for the event will benefit Gaudenzia, Inc.'s Eastern Region - Philadelphia Area - Residential and Outpatient substance abuse programs. Each of these programs is designed to address varied, individual substance abuse treatment needs. Gaudenzia operates outpatient and inpatient treatment services for: men, women and adolescents; pregnant women/women with children; HIV/AIDS symptomatic men and women; dually-diagnosed men and women. Gaudenzia also offers transitional living services for men and women who complete one of the inpatient treatment programs. For at-risk children, Gaudenzia offers substance abuse prevention and education services that will help prevent them from falling into the cycle of dependency. The evening will begin with a silent auction and reception scheduled to begin at 6 PM. Dinner will be severed at 7:30 PM and the humanitarian award ceremony and live auction will immediately follow dinner. A week's accommodations to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico and a week's stay in Avalon, NJ top off the list of exciting auction items. Tickets for the event are $100 and sponsorship opportunities are still available.
