PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Gaudenzia at Park Heights Outpatient Program is a Baltimore Substance Abuse Systems (BSAS) funded Program located in Baltimore City. Gaudenzia provides a structured, step-down outpatient treatment program that includes, but is not limited to, an initial assessment, group therapy, family groups, family issues groups, anger management, individual counseling for clients and their families, didactic groups, as appropriate, 12-step meetings (in-house), referral to community resources (such as physical health, mental health, vocational and educational services, screening programs for STD's, TB and Hepatitis C) and aftercare.

The program coordinates with the 12-step community to provide services. An AA/NA and an Alanon representative provide in-house recovery groups weekly (no charge) so that clients are more familiar and comfortable with the meeting format, making it easier to integrate into groups in the community. Gaudenzia is committed to maximizing utilization of community resources to assist clients in sustaining long-term recovery.

Gaudenzia will accept clients who are HIV positive and will address their concerns, issues and make appropriate referrals for required medical care and other needs. Clients with specialized needs requiring intensive treatment, dual disorder, will be served to the best of the program’s ability or will be referred to appropriate resources in the community.

CLIENT FEES
All referred clients will be accepted into the program, if clinically and medically appropriate. A client’s ability to pay will not be a barrier to treatment. Clients who are unable to pay will be funded by BSAS.

FAMILY PROGRAM:
Involvement of family members and "significant" others is a major factor in effective recovery efforts for the addicted population. Addiction is a family disease and as the disease progresses so do its effects on family members. A frequently occurring dynamic is that the chemically dependent individual obtains treatment in isolation from the family and returns to a "sick" home environment.

In response, Gaudenzia provides family treatment weekly for the first twenty weeks of treatment. This consists of a group designed to therapeutically explore the impact of family on recovery. A didactic group and orientation session are held for client’s families to assist them to understand their relatives in the recovery process. In addition, families are encouraged to attend one in-house Alanon meeting as well as continued meetings in the community.
