PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
Gaudenzia, Inc. has been helping diverse populations since 1968 and utilizes
the Therapeutic Community model of peer interaction and support, combined
with substance abuse and health education, group and individual counseling,
and other interventions necessary to support women in early recovery.
Women offenders will be in an empowering environment that will promote
self sufficiency, independence, appropriate interpersonal skills and communication.
The program
at New Destiny will lay the foundation for recovery and develop effective
coping and communication skills. The women will also prepare for the reunification
with their children. These women and their dependent children will receive
assistance with preserving and supporting the family unit. The environment
will be safe and healthy for dependent children to recover from the devastating
effects of substance abuse and separation from their mothers.
New Destiny
will focus on the multitude of complexities women offenders face as they
reintegrate back into society. It will be imperative for these women to
recognize and change destructive patterns regarding substance abuse, intergenerational
addictive cycles, criminal thinking and compulsive behaviors. The environment
at New Destiny provides positive conditions for these changes to occur.
