PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
Chambers Hill utilizes a Therapeutic Community (TC) approach to treatment. The approach emphasizes that recovery begins with abstinence and through treatment individuals can lead productive, socially responsible and rewarding lives. Our purpose is to re-direct youth away from self-destructive behaviors and toward a better life, starting with abstinence from all chemicals, including tobacco products.
Because chemical dependency affects all significant persons and family members, family involvement in the treatment process is strongly encouraged. The family program is designed to educate everyone whose life has been touched by an addicted person and to help them to understand the disease of addiction.
The program is contracted with Central Dauphin School District to provide appropriate assistance with educational requirements. Chambers Hill employs an Education Specialist and General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D.) instructor. The G.E.D. instructor works with those residents who have not graduated from high school, and who meet identified criteria to enter the G.E.D. program. In other instances, instruction is conducted at a level appropriate to the resident’s academic achievement.
