HOMOPHOBIA IN THE TREATMENT SETTING

Audience: Treatment Professionals
Capacity: 20
Length: 6 Hours
Cost: $128.00

This course examines some of the hostility that can be shown by people towards homosexuals in the treatment setting. Homophobia ranges in intensity from mild to acute forms; it feeds on the initial premise that homosexuality will eventually bring catastrophe to our society. This course concentrates on the acceptance of the treatment provider towards alternative life styles and how the myths can be dispelled.

Course Goals Include:

  • Sorting out myths and realities that can lead to greater self-awareness;
  • Having treatment providers gain an understanding of the relationship between substance abuse and the social psychological pressures of homosexuality;
  • Exploring some of the societal beliefs about homosexuality;
  • Sharing different perspectives and attitudes about alternative life styles;
  • Understanding what it might feel like being gay in today’s society;
  • Helping others to trust this population.
